Wayne A. Crew
Wayne A. Crew is a past Director of CII who currently serves as the General Secretary of the National Academy of Construction, a post he has held since the end of 2015. Prior to leading CII for nine years, he worked as the Associate Director for Research. Before he was on CII staff, he served on the Board of Advisors and was an avid volunteer at CII in the research area.
Wayne’s career in industry mostly centered in Houston, Texas, including a term as Vice President of Construction for Technip. Before that, he spent 23 years at KBR and its predecessor companies, Kellogg Brown & Root and Brown & Root. He began his career at Amoco after graduating with a degree in engineering from Michigan State. Along the way, he was one of the first graduates of the University of Houston’s Executive MBA program.
Wayne Crew embodies every attribute of a Carroll H. Dunn awardee. He has made significant contributions to the industry – and he continues to do so today. Wayne believes that the work done in engineering and construction positively impacts companies, people, and society in ways that no other industry can.
Early in his career, Wayne witnessed a fatality on a construction site – a story he recounted at a CII Board of Advisors meeting. Decades later, this experience still deeply affected him. It compelled him to do everything he could each day to improve our industry, especially in the area of safety. Recently, as part of the National Academy of Construction, he helped lead an effort to reform policies regarding crane safety following a major incident in New York City. This is just one small example of Wayne’s continuing dedication to improving capital projects.
Wayne is the only CII Director other than founder Richard Tucker to have received the Dunn Award. He was unanimously selected by CII’s Executive Committee because of the level of his involvement in so many forums. For years, Wayne has been a leader at the local and national levels with the ACE Mentor Program to bring the next generation of professionals into engineering and construction.
Less formally, Wayne has positively impacted so many of his colleagues, including countless leaders among the CII membership. It’s probably the greatest legacy anyone can leave – to inspire the next generation to reach ever higher.
CII is pleased to honor Wayne Crew with the Carroll H. Dunn Award of Excellence.
