Hyewon, a Ph.D. student at Purdue University, played a significant role in CII’s RT-405 by meticulously researching how organizational culture contributes to success in construction projects, with a focus on Advanced Work Packaging (AWP). This study aimed to identify key indicators and understand their impact on project success and implementation. Using the Behavior Anchor Scale created by RT-405 and Purdue’s Psychology team, she designed a survey to assess how projects adopt the AWP system and measure their performance. This initiative excelled in uncovering hidden barriers such as construction silos, and guided the industry on where and how to improve each stage of construction, including critical areas like schedule performance and data management.

Through data collection, including interviews with 27 individuals, she successfully pinpointed key evaluation factors, validating the need to break down the silos in our industry. Her efforts in this project made a significant impact by enhancing our understanding of organizational culture’s impact on project performance. This synchronization could result in better project outcomes, higher efficiency and increased adoption of AWP, ultimately benefitting the industry as a whole.
