Abstract
Facility owners are vital parties in the construction process as they provide the funds to sustain the construction effort and they generally own the property on which the construction takes place. CII research has shown that owners play more than a peripheral role in the area of safety.

This presentation describes the various ways in which owners influence safety performance on construction sites. This influence begins with contractor selection and continues throughout the construction process. Thus, construction safety begins and ends with the owner.

This one-hour DVD captures a live web seminar where Dr. Jimmie Hinze (University of Florida) explores how the owner’s involvement influences construction worker safety.
