Maximizing Engineering Value and Design Effectiveness Toolkit
Welcome to the Maximizing Engineering Value and Design Effectiveness Toolkit. It features the Implementation Model for Maximizing Engineering Value and Design Effectiveness (MEV/DE), which provides a process for implementing MEV/DE both within an organization and on capital projects. Also in the toolkit is the Engineering Strategies Catalog. This resource presents 64 engineering strategies. (For details on strategy validation, please refer to Research Report 245-11.) To help users better understand which strategies are best for their particular projects, the toolkit also includes the Tradeoffs among Engineering Strategies tool. This tool provides insights into performance tradeoffs resulting from implementation of the engineering strategies. The strategy tradeoffs examined include capital cost versus life cycle costs, and cost versus schedule, among others. Along with these engineering strategies resources, the toolkit also comes with the Engineering Strategy Selection tool, which helps project teams choose the engineering strategies that will be most beneficial for their unique project circumstances. Finally, the toolkit offers four case studies to give examples and provide guidance on implementing the strategies.
As a supplement to this toolkit, Research Team (RT) 245 has also produced Implementation Resource (IR) 245-3, Design Effectiveness Evaluation Tool, a Microsoft Excel-based application.
