Evaluating the Implementation and Value of CII Best Practices

Launched 2023

Objective and Questions

The main objectives of this research are:
  1. Assess the impact of CII Best Practices (BP) on project performance.
  2. Measure the level of implementation of CII BP among CII members.
Specific research questions to be answered include:
  • (Essential question) What is the impact of CII BP implementation on key project performance outcomes?
  • How can CII effectively and systematically collect data on the implementation of CII BP both at the project and company levels?
    • Which metrics and data collection methods should be used to assess the level of implementation and the impact of CII BP and CII tools both at the corporate and project levels?
  • What is the level of implementation of CII BP across projects in member organizations – including any practices that may have been incorporated into standard operating procedures?

Expected Outcomes

The primary expected outcome of this project is a report on the level of implementation and value of CII Best Practices. This report should include:
  • A description of the implementation of CII BP and CII tools, even when they have been incorporated into standard operating procedures.
  • A measurement of the implementation of CII BP and CII tools across all CII members both at the corporate and project levels.
  • An analysis of the value of CII BP and selected CII tools – correlating BP implementation and project outcomes.

Expected (Business) Value for CII Members

  • Enable members to benchmark their adoption of CII BP and tools.
  • Support members’ development of roadmaps for implementing CII BP and CII tools. For instance, results will allow a member company to identify the common and effective tools being used by peers.
  • Help members and prospects demonstrate the value of CII to C-Suite decision-makers.
