Abstract
The following report describes how four companies in the construction industry have implemented e-procurement initiatives. All of the descriptions of the cases are structured using a common framework of Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation (PIE Framework). Regardless of the type of e-procurement solution implemented, the researchers discovered that there were many key success factors common to all companies in each phase of the of PIE framework. Chapter 1 highlights these critical success factors. The remaining chapters focus on the case studies of four construction industry participants. Specifically, three types of e-procurement models are examined in the case study write-ups: an e-procurement tool for maintenance, repair, and operation (MRO) items, a reverse auctions e-procurement tool, and a tool to process requests for information (RFIs). A fourth case study examines one company’s experience with the adoption of multiple e-procurement initiatives including: third-party marketplaces, MRO buying tools, homegrown systems, and backend ERP systems.
