CII Tools Blog Series: Advancing Construction Excellence: Insights from the March 2024 AWP CBA Community Meeting

March 11, 2024 | Project Planning

The March 2024 AWP CBA Community meeting showcased the latest strides in construction productivity and innovation, the main presentation shared the results of case studies analysis done on Direct Labor productivity and AWP, led by Geoff Ryan P.M.P, and validated by the CII academic team. Members from across the globe heeded the call for collaboration and knowledge sharing. Here's a condensed recap of the key takeaways:

It’s Just Math!
The session highlighted the need for standardized processes in construction, drawing parallels with other industries where precise methodologies drive efficiency and optimization.

Why Change?
With growth on the rise and infrastructure demands escalating, the urgency to enhance construction productivity has never been more critical.

The Solution:
AWP, which isn't a novel methodology; it's a collection of best practices honed over two decades, aiming to streamline project execution by ensuring the right resources are available at the right time and place.

The Results:
AWP Scorecard backed by data from 65 projects executed globally; the AWP scorecard showcased a clear correlation between compliance and productivity gains, emphasizing the significant reduction in costs and schedules. Data showed different trends between greenfield and brownfield, which are valuable.

Installation Work Packages remain at the heart of a functioning AWP system. Constraint-free Installation Work Packages (IWPs) ensure frontline workers have everything they need to complete tasks efficiently. We do well at building packages and it’s important to improve engineering and procurement engagement.

The Future State of Construction:
By embracing AWP methodologies, construction owners can unlock unprecedented levels of productivity, positively impacting communities worldwide.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds immense promise for the construction industry, empowered by the structured framework provided by AWP.

Feedback from the audience included the usage of artificial intelligence to enhance the collection of time on tools, importance of formal training and auditing projects.

Attendees were encouraged to delve deeper into AWP resources and register for the upcoming annual conference in San Diego, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the AWP community.

Thanks to all attendee’s participation this meeting served as a catalyst for transformation within the construction industry, paving the way for a more productive, sustainable, and resilient future. Do you want to be part of the change? Contact the AWP CBA here.
