Research Team Wrap Up

RT-402: Advanced Project Controls
RT-402 created a resource that roadmaps how to reach the potential of advanced and real-time project controls to ensure optimized efficiency for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The tool prioritizes KPIs benefiting the most from real-time data and highlights high-value AI applications. Using RT-402’s resources reverse a historical trend, empowering SMEs to spend 80% of their time analyzing information and only 20% manipulating data. Organizations using the tools experienced reduced absenteeism, increased productivity, enhanced predictability, cost reductions, and optimized portfolio management.

RT-403: Navigating the Digital Transformation Landscapre for the Capital Projects
To guide digital transformation, RT-403 developed an easy-to-use tool allowing organizations to roadmap their digital transformation and discover if an investment is viable for their operation in topics like robotics, AI, and more. The centralized tool provides insightful information, including data, quotes, and case studies, to provide intuitive guidance. The information is aggregated from member insights and is in a single searchable dataset to ease digital transformation and avoid pitfalls, analyze trends, and capitalize on dividends.

RT-405: Cultivating Success - Supercharging AWP with a Culture Makeover
RT-405 found that culture has real impact, it can be measured, and it can even be managed to improve culture and project outcomes. Within organizational culture, project culture drives delivery, AWP effectiveness, and consistency. RT-405 set out to define culture and found a way to create a culture that supports behaviors to approach challenges creatively and flexibly. The team created a tool that defines and measures cultural alignment to maximize AWP implementation and found that cultures in line with the tool led to higher work quality, better relationships, and lower stress. Leadership can use the tool to manage and foster a positive culture, including outside of AWP applications.

RT-406: Rethinking Quality Management with a Culture-Centric Approach
To avoid rework and repeated quality issues, RT-406 identified that quality is an integrated function in all phases of a project, including culture. The team’s tool evaluates quality culture within organizations and determines whether it has sufficient resources, training, processes, and whether goals were truly met. The tool, the Quality Culture Assessment Tool (QCAT), allows leadership to facilitate improvements that are flexible to fit your needs and address quality management challenges by developing a quality culture.

Managing Design Integration in Collaborative Project Delivery
A collaborative study between CII and the Charles Pankow Foundation, the team created a roadmap to defining and outlining the new role of Design Integration Manager and integrating the position successfully into organizations. The Design Integration Manager acts as the liaison between the lead designer, the construction manager, and the owner to ensure that the project vision is realized through optimized communication and swift decision making. The team comprehensively mapped the responsibilities and core competencies needed for the role to ensure that all parties involved in the design/build process are supported. The team developed the Design-Builder’s Guide to Design Management, a tool that is designed to be used to hire, train, and develop effective Design Integration Managers.

AC24 Invited Talks

PMI’s Construction Professional (CP) Certification and Collaboration with CII, Ben Breen (PMI)
PMI collaborated with leading construction industry experts and organizations, including CII, to develop a new certification: “PMI-CP” to combat low productivity that has long impacted the construction industry. The certification provides construction professionals with relevant skills to improve efficiency and productivity and to transform the way the industry approaches projects across the globe, including addressing communication issues by developing active listening skills, providing a framework to develop communication strategies and plans, and aiding in improving their formal communication. The certification is an opportunity for new and experienced professionals to learn new techniques to immediately provide positive impacts to construction sites across the globe.

Constructing Connections: Standardizing Data Exchange for Digital AWP Execution
CII’s AWP Data Requirements Joint Working Group created a unified data model that integrates CII’s AWP data requirements with CFIHOS, establishing a standard for data exchange and collaboration throughout the EPC cycle and into operations. The development additionally fills in any gaps left by CFIHOS, FL3DMS, and AWP. The development can revolutionize data exchange, enhance collaboration, and boost the efficiency of project stakeholders with data-centric AWP execution.
